Sunday Evening

20220529PM

Luke 7:36-50 At a baptism, we see a person publicly declare their love for Christ. Why does someone do this? Indeed, why does anyone “go public” with their faith, whether in baptism, or simply by publicly living for Jesus in daily life? Because they know, like the woman in our story, that through Jesus, their many sins have been forgiven. To be loved and forgiven by Christ will overflow in the way we publicly love and live for Jesus.

A Call to Die

Matthew 16:13-28 Examining what it means to “deny ourselves” and what it means to “take up our cross” to follow Jesus. This is call to lay it all on the line for Jesus’s sake.

Dining with Wisdom

Proverbs 8 & 9 Proverbs 8 and 9 paint a picture for us of Woman Wisdom and Woman Folly. Each of them calls us to dine with them, to learn from them, to be shaped by them. The choice for us is clear – will we choose wisdom or folly, life or death?

Wisdom and Foolishness

Proverbs 1:20-33 Here, the author personifies wisdom in the form of a Lady who offers instruction to the foolish. Sadly, they reject her call and end up living a life that leads to destruction. We too, are foolish, and often think that our ways are best. But this passage highlights the journey of the fool and warns readers of following that same path.

The Beginning of Wisdom

Proverbs 1:1-7 So many situations in life are not simply a matter of right and wrong. There is grey in between the black and white. We need wisdom to live well in God’s world. The Book of Proverbs offers us this wisdom from God, and tells us that true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord.

Which Jesus do you believe in?

Luke 24:13-35 “Which Jesus do you believe in?” Every single person must answer that question at some point in their lives. Was he just a good man? Was he a gifted teacher? A prophet? A myth? Or was he truly the Son of God? As we explore Luke’s account of the Emmaus Road encounter, we’re going to see how Christ’s resurrection changes the way everyone must view Jesus.

Luke 19:28-44 As Jesus approached Jerusalem riding on a young donkey, the crowd of excited pilgrims and disciples shouted praises to God. It was as if they were welcoming a royal procession. But will they recognise Jesus as the righteous and victorious King?

Have we misidentified Jesus?

Luke 18:31-43 As we open our Easter series in the book of Luke, it’s important to reflect on exactly who Jesus is. While the question may sound simple, perhaps the Jesus we have in our heads isn’t quite the whole picture of the chosen Messiah spoken about in the Bible. In this account of Jesus’ interaction with the blind beggar, we see that in order to recognise the real Jesus, we must understand his authority, mercy, and mission.

Found in Christ

Galatians 3:23-29 Whether or not we speak in these terms, every human being is on a search for our “true self.” But the Bible makes it clear that our search will always be futile while we remain disconnected from God. The key to discovering our true self is to understand who we are in Christ. In him, we truly find ourselves.

When the going gets tough …

1 Peter 5:5-11 When was the last time you felt some level of ‘persecution’ for your faith? Have you ever? For the recipients of this letter, it was a way of life. So these words from Peter were particularly relevant, challenging and encouraging. As Australia becomes less tolerant of Christians and a Christian viewpoint, we have to learn how to respond in a way that is humble, brave and uncompromising, but thoroughly true to who we are as God’s faithful…

The Christian Leaders we really need

1 Peter 5:1-4 There are all sorts of spiritual gifts, skills and attributes that Christian leaders bring to the task of shepherding God’s flock, but as the church faces increasing opposition, Peter tells us what kind of leaders we really need to help us stand firm in the faith.

1 Peter 4:12-19 As we begin the book of 1 Peter, the apostle writes to persecuted Christians, instructing them how to live lives as “Elect Exiles” in a world that is not their home, encouraging them to live lives that glorify Christ, and that despite their circumstances, the joy and peace of Christ are available.
